In the Beginning Was the Word: Finding Meaning in the Literary Structure of the Gospel of John

by  James M. Hamilton jr.

Book Review

In this compact volume James Hamilton, well-known as both pastor and professor, offers brilliant insights into the fourth gospel and gives particular attention to the structure of the Gospel of John. The title of this book might sound mainly of interest to New Testament scholars, but I can assure readers that this is the kind of volume that will assist preachers tremendously.

It is filled with rich exegesis, faithful biblical theology, and a structural and literary analysis of the gospel of John that will be incredibly helpful to preachers. Put straightforwardly the structure of the Gospel of John should have immediate implications for the structure of our preaching on the Gospel of John. This book will open a whole new understanding of the fourth Gospel for preachers and thus for their congregations as well.
